Professor James Singeltary is a distinguished figure in the martial arts community, celebrated for his dynamic skill set across Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Tae Kwan Do, and Hapkido. A 1st Degree Black Belt under Gracie Barra, he has been recognized as the #1 Ranked Master 7 Black Belt globally in 2020 and 2021, boasting multiple championships in IFBJJ and European IFBJJ competitions.
Beyond BJJ, James has a 4th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwan Do, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Hapkido, and has contributed his expertise as a combat hand-to-hand training instructor to the UAE military. His profound impact as a leader and coach extends beyond the mat, inspiring athletes and martial artists worldwide with his dedication and achievements.

Professor Paulo Couto dos Santos

Professor Paulo Couto dos Santos is the Head Instructor at Solid Base. With over 24 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Professor Paulo brings world-class expertise, leadership, and a deep passion for the art. 
A 4th degree black belt and IBJJF-certified instructor, Professor Paulo has competed and coached at the highest levels both nationally and internationally.
His career includes impressive accomplishments such as:
•  25 years experience,•  World Champion GI and NoGi •  Coached across seven countries 
In addition to his competitive achievements, Professor Paulo has coached athletes across six countries and holds extensive experience in Gi, No-Gi, and MMA instruction. 
His technical knowledge, international experience, and commitment to student growth make him an incredible asset to our team and community. Join us on the mats and train under one of the most accomplished instructors in the region.

Professor Damon Mauro

Morning classes at Solid Base are led by Professor Damon, a Gracie Barra black belt, U.S. Navy veteran, and lifelong student of discipline and performance. After serving his country with honor, Damon pursued competitive bodybuilding, developing a deep understanding of strength training, conditioning, and nutrition.
With over 13 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Damon earned his black belt under Professor Roberto Cuartero, and earned his Professor promotion from Professor Alexandre Dantas, representing the respected Gracie Barra lineage known for its technical precision and strong sense of community.
His unique background blends military discipline, athletic conditioning, and Jiu-Jitsu strategy. Damon has coached individuals across all walks of life, from high-level competitors to those simply looking to live healthier, providing customized training and nutrition guidance along the way.
Rooted in old school values and a fundamentals first approach, Professor Damon’s classes are ideal for anyone seeking to build a strong base, sharpen their skills, and grow on and off the mats.

Coach Nate Bryant

Nate is a distinguished individual with a notable background in both military service and academic pursuits. With 22 years of experience in the military, Nate specialized in combat search and rescue and logistics loadmaster roles, showcasing his dedication, resilience, and leadership skills in high-pressure environments.
His military career is marked by exemplary service and a commitment to excellence in every mission he undertook. Following his retirement from the military, Nate transitioned to academia, where he is a doctoral student in Business Administration. This move reflects his continuous desire for personal and professional growth, and his focus on business administration indicates a keen interest in applying his leadership skills and operational experience to the corporateworld.
Nate's broad expertise includes project management, Six Sigma, procurement, and logistics. His military background and academic pursuits have equipped him with a unique skill set that blends strategic thinking, operational excellence, and a profound understanding of complex logistical challenges. Nate is also an accomplished athlete outside his professional and academic life. He has a passion for endurance sports, participating in triathlons and marathons, which demonstrates his dedication, discipline, and resilience. Furthermore, Nate has excelled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, winning six gold medals in IBJJF open placements and two gold medals in the prestigious PANS competitions. These achievements highlight his competitive spirit, physical prowess, and tactical acumen.

Emily Walker Youth Gymnastics

Meet Emily Walker, Gymnastics Instructor at Solid Base. Emily Walker brings extensive experience and passion to our gymnastics program at Solid Base. As a USAG Gymnastics member and Safe Sport Trained instructor, Emily provides a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for athletes of all ages and skill levels. 
With a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Management, Emily combines her knowledge of child development with a structured and engaging coaching style. Emily has seven years of gymnastics coaching experience, working with children as young as 18 months and up to 17 years old in both recreational and competitive settings.
Her expertise also extends to working directly with special needs children,ensuring that every student receives personalized attention and guidance. After stepping away from coaching for a corporate role while completing her degree, Emily quicklyrealized that her true passion was in the gym, helping young athletes grow,develop confidence, and reach their full potential.
Now, she is committed to turning her childhood dream of leading her own gymnastics and tumbling program into reality. Emily is excited to share her love for gymnastics with the community and looks forward to helping students learn, progress, and have fun along the way!

James Reape Wrestling Instructor

We’re proud to welcome Coach James Reape to Solid Base MMA as our lead Wrestling Instructor. With over 30 years of coaching experience at Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, Coach Reape is one of the most respected names in Florida wrestling.
During his tenure, Coach Reape has developed 27 individual State Champions and guided over 130 athletes to state podium finishes. Under his leadership, Clay High School has achieved over 500 dual meet wins, earned 20+ District Championships, 15 Regional Titles, and an impressive 20 top-ten finishes at the Florida State Tournament—including State Runner-Up eight times and State Champions in 2004.
His coaching legacy extends far beyond high school, having mentored college national champions, All-Americans, and even NFL athletes. In recognition of his incredible contributions to the sport, Coach Reape was inducted into the Florida Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2016.
Coach Reape’s wrestling journey began in the wrestling-rich regions of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania, and continued at Boston University, where he wrestled from 1988 to 1992 under legendary coach Carl Adams. He was a three-time letterwinner with the Terriers and continues to give back as a guest clinician at camps and clinics nationwide.
Outside the gym, Coach Reape is a proud resident of Green Cove Springs, where he lives with his wife of 28 years, Stacee. They have two children. Coach Reape is also an avid traveler and fitness enthusiast.
Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned athlete, Coach Reape brings unmatched experience, passion, and mentorship to our wrestling program, now offered Sundays at Solid Bas.
